Roubaix, La Piscine Musée d’Art et d’Industrie André Diligent

This large retrospective exhibition, entitled “A Garden of Hearts”, traces 30 years of Agatha Ruiz de la Prada’s prodigious career and assembles roughly 100 dresses and original designs. A Madrid native, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada started her career in 1981 having been greatly influenced by Movida, the Spanish sociocultural movement of the 1970s and 80s that also produced the likes of director Pedro Almodovar.

Once debuted, her eclectic, colorful and tender style became an immediate success and she has since gone on to collaborate with major commercial brands such as Audi and Absolut. Exploring styles and forms with a generosity and inventiveness in everything she creates – clothes, accessories, perfumes, jewelry, interior decoration, as well as costumes for the ballet, theater and opera – her work emits a contagious joy and playful passion that both functions on the fringe of fashion yet is directly engaged at the very heart of it.
