Birds of a feather flock together, and in the
world of 20th-century pop icons, Andy Warhol
ruled the roost. Not only did the enterprising
talent become the first pop star in the history
of art, his work, like his life, was filled with
famous faces from the musical stage.
This landmark exhibition homes in on
Warhol's prolific fascination with international
superstars from the pop and rock scenes,
including the Beatles, Mick Jagger, Keith
Richards, Liza Minelli, Aretha Franklin, Ron
Wood, and last but certainly not least
(although the least recognizable today), the
King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
Drawing works directly from the Andy Warhol
Foundation for the Visual Arts (established
shortly after the artist's death, in accordance
with his last will), the groundbreaking show
features some 60 works on paper, of which
half have never graced the public eye.
