This month the cogniscenti will make the pilgrimage once again to the Mecca of the art world, the 37th edition of Art Basel. Over 2,000 artists from some 300 galleries will be showing electrifying new work from promising future stars, as well as more notorious pieces from established names, such as Lucian Freud and Egon Schiele.
There are many exciting facets to this year's show, include Vingage Photography, featuring seminal images from Man Ray, Brassaï, Diane Arbus and Dora Maar to name but a few. Up-and-coming talent with potential are given the opportunity to make their mark with the help of Art Basel's new Art Premiere section, a veritable hotbed of new galleries, which are well worth a viewing.
The latest buzz is Design Miami/Basel. The new satellite show which made its debut in Miami last December, highlights a successful marriage between the two mediums. Ron Arad's "Good Intentions" and Swedish design quartet Front's installations are dazzling examples.
