Ahead of a major retrospective of the work of Tunisian-born, Paris-based fashion designer Azzedine Alaia that will take place at the Galleria Museum in Paris this autumn, this exhibition in Düsseldorf displays Alaïa fashion creations from the last ten years. Each room in the exhibition focuses on a different material that Alaïa has consistently used over the past decade: velvet, fur, wool, leather, cotton, animal skins, chiffon and knitwear.

Azzedine Alaïa is one of the most important fashion designers of the last decades. The name Alaïa stands for glamour, sensuality, style, cut, self-confidence, comfort and, of course, sex appeal. His tight dresses embrace the bodies of the world’s most seductive and successful women. The exhibition Azzedine Alaïa in the 21st century has been compiled by curator Mark Wilson and the Groninger Museum, while the exhibits have been provided by Azzedine Alaïa.
