Beyond Boundaries : Islamic Art Across Cultures - the first exhibtion of the recently opened Museum of Islamic Arts in Doha - brings together leading cultural institutions from around the world, all of which have loaned artworks that reflect the theme of cultural diversity in the heritage of the Muslim world. As the title of this inaugural exhibition suggests, Beyond Boundaries is not restricted solely to the world of Islam, but also explores its interaction with other cultures and religions.

The audaciously broad theme of the exhibition allows a juxtaposition of works as diverse as a 15th century Florentine Madonna painting, a 19th century Indonesian genealogical chronicle or a 2008 painting by the contemporary Indian artist Maqbool Fida Husain representing the cross cultural dialogue.
