Bharat Sikka: “The Road to Salvador do Mundo”

New Delhi, Gallery Nature Morte

This solo exhibition of photographer Bharat Sikka features new color photographs shot in or near Salvador do Mundo, a small village of Goa in Southwest India.

The images span a wide range of genres: landscapes, portraits, interiors and still life, all linked by a common mood and perspective. The photographer presents the atmosphere and the inhabitants of this hamlet as characters in an on-going drama; multiple narratives are suggested but never completed.

Bharat Sikka was born in 1973, is based in New Delhi and holds a BFA degree from the Parsons School of Design in New York City. His photographs have appeared in a wide number of international publications including The New Yorker, Details, Time, I.D., Marie Claire (Italy) and Vogue India. Concurrent with this exhibition will be a showing of Bharat Sikka’s fashion photography at the offices of the advertising agency Wieden + Kennedy; in these, his style is both humorous and dramatic, often using unconventional locations and unexpected points of view.
