The royal court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, was an early precurser to today’s catwalk. Ensembles created by the queen’s dressmaker, Rose Bertin, were donned by wooded mannequins and toured the various courts of Europe. One could argue that a few of today’s most revered haute couturiers have become kings of fashion’s court, displaying all the flamboyance and drama of the French royal.

The popularity and media frenzy associated with today’s fashion shows, generated by theatricality of visionary designers such as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan, marks fashion out as becoming one of the dominant cultural media of the twenty-first century.

Alexandre de Betak, one of the greatest fashion show directors in the business, teamed up with German Vogue to offer visitors a front row view of some of the most breathtaking shows of recent years. Multimedia installations, projections of show footage from Balenciaga, Balmain, Comme des Garçons, Marc Jacobs, John Paul Gaultier and many more and the chance for visitors to walk the catwalk shed light on the timeless allure of fashion.
