This sale, held by the prestigious auction house Phillips
de Pury & Company in its vast, light-filled gallery in New
York's Meatpacking District, will feature, at the stroke of
2pm on April 25, photographs from the collection of Alain
Dominique Perrin. Perrin, the head of the Richemont
Financial Group and founder and president of the
Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain in Paris, is a
peerless collector of photographic images. The auction
features a striking range of works by monuments of the
photographic art, spanning the 20th century, from a
classic 1899 Eugène Atget shot to more recent images
by Andreas Gursky, Nan Goldin and Herb Ritts from the
1990's. It is also international, with photographers such
as Brassaï, Irving Penn, André Kertész, Cindy Sherman,
Andres Serrano and Helmut Newton in the lineup. A show
made up of showstoppers, this auction (or its viewing)
is not to be missed.
