Hyères, Villa Noailles

Recognizing future talent, this highly acclaimed international competition, now in its fourth edition, offers young designers a platform to showcase their creations to a jury of established names, including designers Jasper Morrison (this year’s president) and Inga Sempé and Italian Journalist Annlina Kolvu. “Think Global, Act Local” is the theme of this year’s event, which focuses on the ties between design and experimentation, exploration and marketing. Jerszy Seymour’s Being There is an interesting alternative to the more traditional expression of design through aesthetically informed renderings. “Act local” and “Global Outreach” on the first floor of the celebrated Villa Noailles, designed by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, is dedicated to Djo-Bourgeois. Visitors will get a sneak preview of the early stages of the permanent exhibition, which officially opens next year.

Hyères, in particular Villa Noailles, has established itself as a major springboard for young design talent. Check out this year’s winners, Antoine Boudin, Felipe Ribon and Emi Yatsuzaki for a look ahead at the future of design.
