The first Gulf Art Fair kicks off in Dubai, with forty
of the world's leading contemporary and modern
galleries converging upon the lucrative emirate.
London's White Cube, Nature Morte in New Delhi
and Tokyo's SCAI Bathhouse are just a few of the
leading art establishments showing an impressive
collection of contemporary master works from the
likes of Sam-Taylor Wood, Julian Opie, Keith
Haring and Andy Warhol. As John Martin, director
of the new annual event, explains, "Dubai is set to
become a major center for the global art market.
Situated within easy reach of Russia, India and
Southeast Asia, it is ideally placed to become the
focal point for some of the most exciting new art
markets in the world. In bringing together the most
innovative art in one of the world's most dynamic
countries, the Gulf Art Fair hopes to establish
Dubai as Asia's leading center for contemporary
art."
