London, Phillips de Pury & Company

Held during London Design Festival, running from September 13-23, 2008, this is a selling exhibition showcasing 24 works commissioned by Vitra Edition, the radical design arm of the Swiss furniture manufacturer. Featured in this show are furniture and objects by some of the strongest talents working in design today, including Konstantin Grcic, Frank Gehry, Fernando and Humberto Campana, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Ron Arad, Jasper Morrison, Naoto Fukasawa and Tokujin Yoshioka.

One of the highlights is Zaha Hadid's "Mesa" (2007) table; the complex arrangement of the intertwined lines of its curving base echoes the language of Hadid's architecture and juxtaposes the flatness of the tabletop's four parts. It comes in an edition of 12, costing €140,000 each. Also impressive is the Bouroullec brothers' composition "Rocs" (2007), a playful yet robust piece that acts as a space divider. Designed with the latest technical advancements, its base and cardboard segments have been cut using a computer process and then assembled by hand according to a complex plan. It also comes in an edition of 12, costing €15,000 each.
