Franck Sorbier. “La Couture Corps et Âme” (Couture Body and Soul)
Lyon, Musées des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs

Lyon’s Museum of Textiles, pays tribute to the haute couture creations of couturier Franck Sorbier. The French designer presented his debut collection in 1987. In 1996 he became a member of the venerated French Federation of Couture and Ready-to-Wear and launched his debut haute couture collection three years later.

This retrospective focuses on the designer’s decade in haute couture. Sorbier cut his sartorial teeth at Thierry Mugler, and throughout his career he has garnered support from the most prominent names in couture, from master embroiderer François Lesage and bootmaker Raymond Massaro, to Jean-Paul Gaultier and Sonia Rykiel.

Personally curated by the designer, he reflects on his intimate relationship with textiles, which is particularly relevant, given Lyon’s rich textile and silk heritage. The collection of one-off pieces and stage costumes in a flurry of color in fantastic sculptured forms lay testament to Sorbier’s immense talent and creativity.

The exhibition coincides with the first monograph of the couturier Franck Sorbier, published by Editions Xavier Barral.
