The ninth exhibition by Paris-based designer Hervé Van Der Straeten showcases a selection of new furniture, mirrors, lamps and objects all created in his signature decorative arts style. Taking its name from the music term that refers to discord or an inharmonious sound, Van Der Straeten’s Dissonances collection juxtaposes volumes, materials and colours to create what his office describes as an “interplay of tension and attraction”.

Created in Van Der Straeten’s own cabinet-making and bronze workshops, highlights of Dissonances include Chaos Console, which comprises a series of blocks that seemingly explode at different angels; Hypertension Table, which features a tortoiseshell rock tabletop with bright red stainless steel legs; and Facette XL Chandelier in a bright shade of orange. Combining traditional artisan craft techniques with unusual combinations of materials (both rare and innovative), the exhibition proves yet again why Van Der Straeten’s work is often described as the antiques of the future.
