Homage to Maria Callas
Teatro Alla Scala

It's been 30 years since the world mourned the passing of opera legend Maria Callas, yet her immense talent and iconic image proceeds her to this day. Hailed La Divina for her sublime operatic talent and her well-documented temperamental behaviour, the American born Greek soprano's sparkling career was often, unfortunately overshadowed by personal tragedy.

Milan's Teatro Alla Scala pays homage with a program of events marking the anniversary of the singer's death, including the world premier of Philippe Kohly's "Callas" as well as the theatre's unmissable exhibitions, Stage Costumes and Backstage Images. Although is it said that her voice suffered due to a drastic metamorphisis from stocky soprano to svelte diva, the stunning transformation elevated her to iconic status. As both the beautiful ensembles on show and candid offstage photos attest, Callas was a star in every sense.
