London, Serpentine Gallery

Taking its name from the importance of the road in migration and movement and its link between rural and urban communities, this exhibition assembles work by some of the hottest Indian artists working today. Raqs Media Collective has curated a show within a show, in which they have invited documentary filmmakers such as Debkamal Ganguly, Ruchir Joshi, Kavita Pai & Hansa Thapliyal, M. R. Rajan, Priya Sen, Surabhi Sharma and Vipin Vijay to participate. Another highlight is how M. F. Husain has depicted the history of India in a series of large-scale paintings surrounding the Serpentine Gallery's exterior. Other artists in the show include Subodh Gupta, Shilpa Gupta, Sheela Gowda, Jitish Kallat and Bharti Kher.

The exhibition is the latest of many taking place worldwide on contemporary art from India and reflects how interest in this is staying strong. Indeed, over at the Mori Art Museum (www.mori.art.museum) in Tokyo is "Chalo India," another show regrouping several of the same artists.
