Sonnabend Gallery

The Galerie Patrick Seguin and Galerie Jacques Lacoste in Paris have brought a seminal 20th century designer to New York audiences. Following the exhibition of the works of Jean Prouvé in 2003 and Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in 2006, this is the first retrospective exhibition of Jean Royère.

A visionary in the free-form 1950s style and a general mid-century French master of modernist design, Jean Royère's extensive career spans from his debut with the 1933 interior of the Carlton on the Champs-Elysées to his later, continued acclaim, attracting international commissions from clients such as King Hussein of Jordan and the Shah of Iran.

This comprehensive overview of his rich career features a hundred pieces of furniture and lighting, which reflect his uniquely innovative, fresh style, considering the period in which he created, and which are filled with equal humor and eclecticism.
