As sculptors, architects and archeologists, Anne and Patrick Poirier's lengthy career has explored the structures of human civilization and the human mind, the city as an expression of the brain. They began their career exploring archaeology sites from ancient civilizations and have evolved to creating highly conceptual works based on these early explorations.
The centerpiece of the exhibit is a temple of mirrors with inscriptions in the interior that evoke the essential mechanisms of memory. Visitors who enter inside the structure not only see their own image but also the inscriptions multiplied into infinity, initiating an aesthetic experience that touches on the universal and the individual mind or, to quote Michel Foucault, they have created "a place outside all places".
Anne and Patrick Poirier underline the permanent fragility of cultural memory and translate, by their very creation, the will of artists to preserve it.
