São Paolo, Instituto Tomie Ohtake

The year 2009 is the Year of France in Brazil, following the highly acclaimed Year of Brazil in France in 2005; a highlight of this former exchange is the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the work of Patrick Jouin. Approximately 150 objects represent 50 different collaborative projects, and offer a rich and diverse sampling of his projects, especially in the past 10 years he has worked under his own name.

In addition to designing some of the world’s leading restaurants, such as the Plaza Athénée and the Jules Verne in Paris (and a project to re-design the Eiffel Tower’s newest restaurant, 58 Tour Eiffel), The Dorchester in London, Chlösterli-Spoon in Gstaad, Spoon Byblos in Saint Tropez, and Mix in Las Vegas, Patrick Jouin has also produced furniture editions with Kartell, Cassina, Alessi, Ligne Roset and Murano Due, the exhibition design for the Photography Biennale at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, and the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai.

In his elegant and clean style, Jouin balances tradition, technology and innovation; this retrospective is a cross-cultural encounter not to be missed.
