Menton, Musée Cocteau de Menton

In 2005, Severin Wunderman donated to the City of Menton a total of 1791 works for a museum dedicated entirely to the work of Jean Cocteau that is slated to open in 2011. As a precursor, part of this extraordinary gift will be revealed in the exhibition “Les Amoureux de Cocteau” that traces the artists’s vision of lovers, following one of his most well known works in this theme, the mural decorating the Salle des Mariages of the town of Menton’s Hôtel de Ville (1956-1958). The exhibition presents over 100 works, designs, manuscripts, ceramics and photographs. The Côte d’Azur and particularly the town of Menton were a creative home for Jean Cocteau in the 1920s; this is one of the most central places in the world for understanding thoroughly the passion and process of this great artist.
