Created in 1975 as the Pictura Fine Art Fair, which
then ten years later in 1985 merged with the
Valkenburg international antiques fair to become
TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair), this annual
gathering has grown by leaps and bounds over
the past 32 years, becoming one of the art world's
major annual events. With an offer worth over $1
billion—and that figure excludes the contemporary
jewelry section—shown by 220 art and antiques
dealers from over 15 countries, who have the
luxury of displaying their prized works in a 300,000
square-foot space, TEFAF not only proposes all of
its paintings, sculptures, and objets d'art for sale
to visitors, but also organizes special exhibitions of
rarely shown works throughout the fair, for viewing
by attendees. A music festival, theater
productions, and book signings round out the
diverse, animated offering.
