Paris, Galerie Azzedine Alaïa

After an acclaimed exhibition last April at the Galleria Carla Sozzani in Milan, works by the highly influential Milan-based Memphis design collective are now presented at Galerie Azzedine Alaïa in Paris. Described as the “last real design movement of the 20th century” by Ms. Sozzani, Memphis was created in 1980 by a group of furniture, ceramic, print, industrial product and architectural designers including Ettore Sottsass, Barbara Radice, Marco Zanini, Aldo Cibic, Matteo Thun, Michele De Lucchi and Martine Bedin. Some of the group’s more iconic pieces will be on display, such as the Brazil side table by Peter Shire and the Lido chair by Michele De Lucchi.

In honor of the exhibition, the publisher Electa will reprint the book “Memphis: Research, Experiences, Results, Failures and Successes of New Design” by Barbara Radice as well as “Memphis: The New International Style”.
