Maastricht, TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair)

The selection of Modern and Contemporary works at TEFAF was started in 1991, and this year comprises works held by 46 dealers out of a total of 263 exhibitors. TEFAF began as The Pictura Fine Art Fair specializing in Old Master paintings and medieval sculptures in 1975, and is now regarding as presenters of exceptional pieces from more modern times.

In addition to a stellar selection of Modern and Contemporary works on display across the 46 galleries, a particular highlight is a masterpiece of Paul Gauguin for sale during the fair. It is one of his last works, Deux Femmes, painted in 1902 in Hiva Oa in the remote Marquesas Islands 740 miles from Tahiti. It is offered for sale by the leading international art dealer Dickinson for a price in the region of €18 million (US$26 million).
