The Geffen Contemporary, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)

Playful twists of color and character, consumption and culture constitute the most comprehensive retrospective of Takashi Murakami's work to date. The artist is celebrated for his pictorial language that links motifs from popular culture and the formal qualities of traditional Japanese art like flatness, pattern, and ornamentation.

More than 90 works in various media such as painting sculpture, installation and film will cover over 35,000 square feet of exhibition space divided into three sections: an immersive and theatrical presentation of his sculptural figures, a display of his collaborative work with Louis Vuitton, and a chronological installation spanning his entire career. This is the debut exhibit that is scheduled to travel onward to New York and Europe.

© Murakami is a fantastical and spiritual, yet deliciously commercial, exploration of identity and branding.
