Roni Horn first visited Iceland as an intrepid 20-
year-old in 1975; she traveled in a tent and went
hitchhiking and walking, exploring unspoiled,
natural landscapes and hot springs. So started the
American, New York-based artist's relationship
with Iceland, which is underlined in this exhibition.
'My Oz' is the first large-scale show of Horn's
wide-ranging work in Scandinavia. Fourteen
artworks are featured: four sculptures, including a
new glass sculpture, large-scale photographic
installations, pigment drawings and paintings.
Horn's portraits of the French actress Isabelle
Huppert are on display, as are her photographs of
owls and Icelandic landscapes. The installation
'Doubt by Water', combining portraits of a young
guy alongside images of misty seascapes, are
examples of the recurring themes of water,
conservation, and the interaction between man
and nature.
Other works take the use of language as their
basis, such as minimal sculptures with words
appearing across that are positioned against a
wall. The exhibition also includes Horn's blurred
clown images, which signal a more provocative
direction from her earlier projects.
