Maastricht, TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair)

This thematic selection of works, amid the roughly 50,000 objects offered for sale at TEFAF in total, is largely comprised of paintings, drawings and prints from the Old Masters. In 2009, an additional Works on Paper Section to the Fair opened that invited 19 dealers to exhibit, 18 of which were new to the Fair. Specialists in these fields, however, who have been exhibiting at TEFAF for many years will remain in the existing Paintings, Drawings and Prints and TEFAF Modern sections, whose works overlap with this newer section.

Of particular note for TEFAF’s 23rd edition, Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John painted by Alessandro Felipepi di Mariano di Vanni, called Sandro Botticelli at about 1493-95 will be for sale by the leading international art dealers Dickinson for a price in the region of US$15 million (€11.1 million). The work is sometimes known as the Rockefeller Madonna because it was once in the collection of the Rockefeller family in New York.
