Inventor of the "vertical garden," French botanist Patrick Blanc brings verdant life to the most unexpected surfaces. Scaling the walls of retail interiors (Marithé et François Girbaud), the inner façade of luxury hotels (Pershing Hall) or the exteriors of cultural institutions (Musée du Quai Branly), each of Blanc's lush natural murals bridges ecology and high design. For over thirty years, this indefatigable, world-renowned doctor of botany has sought to understand the plant
world's extraordinary instinct for survival. Transforming the exhibition space of the EDF galleries into a jungle of bio-diversity, Blanc has created six installations using over 2000 plants, "to show how plants learn to adapt to extreme conditions, like river rapids, dark forest floors and cave entrances." Plunging visitors into a kaleidoscopic atmosphere of color,
texture, energy and endurance, Blanc hopes to reveal the extraordinary "imagination of plants" to sustain themselves, through noncompetition, collaboration and respect, in the harshest of the world's environments.
