The inaugural Photomed photography festival has been founded by Philippe Heullant and Philippe Sérénon with the aim of taking the first steps toward building an inventory of Mediterranean photography now. For its first edition, Photomed will present 21 exhibitions, all free of charge, as well as a selection of photography workshops, portfolio reviews, installations, and a studio, in order to give the festival a global dimension that speaks to the desires of a diverse public, and at the same time, facilitating the interaction between inhabitants of Sanary-sur-Mer and the visitors to the festival. Martin Parr will be the guest of honor for this inaugural event.

What is the approach and the motivation of the contemporary photographers who walk in the footsteps of their famous predecessors? In this era of globalization, can we speak about a Mediterranean photography with a proper specificity and free of exotism? In the search for its origins, following a past that is always retold, does Mediterranean photography have a particular resonance? These are the questions explored at Photomed.
