Slim Aarons is one of the most prolific and revered society photographers of the 20th century. Aarons’s career began as a war photographer for YANK magazine, the official publication of the U.S. armed forces. After witnessing the horrors of war, the photographer sought refuge within the refined world of high society, dedicating more than half a century to documenting the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

By infiltrating the upper echelon of the elite classes, Aarons offered a rare glimpse into a world of glamour and privilege that set an early model for society magazines. Getty’s impressive back catalogue of works includes some of his most acclaimed images as well as those that are less well-known. From Joan Collins’s pink poodle, to behind the traditionally closed doors of Bel Air’s most exclusive mansions, Slim Aarons’s world remains as alluring as ever.
