London, Sebastian + Barquet

As gems and bejeweling moves into the domestic domain, Solange Azagury-Partridge has translated her statement style jewelry into unique decorative objects for the home inlaid with precious and semi-precious stones. Following on from its successful New York debut, Unwearable Jewels has relocated to Sebastian + Barquet’s UK gallery in London, where the designer is based. Inspired by and echoing motifs from her COSMIC jewelry collection, she subverts the traditional approach towards the use of precious stones and metals. Handmade geometric carpets dazzle and wall plaques take on an enameled, mosaic appearance, but the undeniable star of the show is the chandelier encrusted with diamonds totaling 200 carats. Dramatic details, such as the gothic style gem settings based on the vicious grip of predatory birds, often applied to rings and necklaces, take on new guises as their bony claws grasp at table castors. “Solange is a singular talent. She has brought much needed vitality to the world of jewelry and is now doing the same for design.” Enthused Oscar Humphries of Sebastian + Barquet, London.
