Stories Imagined in Real Places
Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea

Milan's Museum of Contemporary Photography has used as a springboard the idea of giving eight Italian and European photographers the task of working their photographic magic in eight different places in Lombardy. The objective behind the project was to allow the creativity of these photographic artists to create stories out of the places they were putting before the lens.

The places photographed range from a mountainous lake region (Paola De Pietri) to an artificial canal (Andrea Abati) to villas (Gilbert Fastenaekens, Vittore Fossati), castles (Olivo Barbieri), palazzos (Jitka Hanzlovà), a country house (Alessandra Spranzi) and an abbey (Jean Louis Garnell). With accompanying text written by Paola Capriolo, the new visions of the chosen spaces make them into elaborate fictions, shaping them in their own visionary way and then fixing them on film. A curious hybrid, a realist modern fairytale through the lens of creation.
