Famed for portraits and landscapes illustrating a superior talent for chiaroscuro, 17th century Flemish artist, Rembrandt van Rijn, was not only a master of the paintbrush, but a prolific draftsman and etcher. This latest offering of Rembrandt retrospectives marking the fourth centenary since the artist's birth casts the spotlight on his masterworks on paper and copper.
Throughout his career, Rembrandt explored many facets of human experience, from self-portraits, to landscapes, religious xx and scenes, such as The Night Watch.
Notable pieces of the exhibition include his most famous landscape etching, The Three Trees and a unique copper plate entitled Abraham Entertaining the Angels; discovered hidden behind a landscape painting by another Dutch artist for some 350 years.
Pandering to the current collectors boom, the fifth and final gallery takes a comparative look at many of the artist's works, addressing issues of connoisseurship and posing the question "What Makes One Rembrandt Better than Another?"
