The Jardin Majorelle and the Fondation Pierre Bergé–Yves Saint Laurent are presenting, for the first time in Morocco, an exhibition of Yves Saint Laurent looks, inspired by the country he loved so much.

Yves Saint Laurent had always claimed that Morocco influenced his creations and it is clear that the Moroccans’ rich way of dressing did not elude him. He knew how to appropriate the djellaba, the jabador, the burnous, the tarbouch… to create his very own unique silhouettes. This exhibition, initiated and directed by Pierre Bergé, is homage by Yves Saint Laurent to the habitants of this country, to the Marrakech sky, to its colors and its light.

“When I discovered Marrakech, it was an extraordinary shock. The city taught me color,” was just one of the many credits that Saint Laurent gave to city. Presented in the museum attached to the gardens that he restored with Pierre Bergé, the colours and light of Marrakech can clearly be seen in his couture.

This exhibition will move to the Fondation ONA at the Villa des Arts in Casablanca, from 5 April to 17 July 2011.
