The minimalist design, inventive lighting and stunning photography on the walls all come together to create a great overall atmosphere. black calvadosThe fashion show producer and furniture designer Alex de Betak has opened his first foray into the culinary world: a cozy restaurant and lounge called Black Calvados. Chef Jerome Lorvellec - of Nobu and Pershing Hall fame - serves New American food such as the Kobe mini burgers, burgers topped with truffles and cheese and lobster rolls. The interior is designed with accents of stainless steel and handsome parquet floors, but the real lure here is the pretty, fashion crowd. COMMONWEALTH CLUBThe Commonwealth Club is the private members' club of the Royal Commonwealth Society that has clued-up politicians, broadcasters and academics vying to become members. Dating back to the 1860s, it's now a contemporary affair, thanks to design agency MoreySmith, which has transformed a neighboring building into spaces that flow seamlessly into the original club. New facilities include the funky Red Room, which seats eight boardroom-style, and two small break-out areas with vaulted ceilings. These add to existing features that include a bright and airy restaurant, London's only suspended private dining room. pachaPacha is the city's new megaclub imported from Ibiza. Its 30,000 square feet are divided into four levels and a multitude of high-design seating niches that surround an open atrium with an intimate dance floor at its base. The top-floor is VIP-only, an area affectionately called Pachita, where sleek babes and stunning boys lounge the night away on the low-slung banquettes. There is also a roof garden where summertime party-goers can watch the sun rise over the city and Times Square. Just like Pacha in Ibiza, the NYC club hosts big name DJs including Roger Sanchez, Laurent Garnier, and Jeff Mills. hudson hotel barVisiting New York without stopping here for a cocktail just isn't possible. The Hudson Bar is a dazzling venue decorated in a riotous collection of styles. It features a glass floor lit from beneath, a hand-painted ceiling by world-renowned artist Francesco Clemente and furniture design that looks like Louis XV meets 2001: A Space Odyssey. Since it's opening in late 2005, it's already been host to Matt Damon's 30th birthday bash and when she's in town, Jennifer Lopez regularly swings by. double sevenBeyond the entry tunnel is a simple room outfitted with black-leather communal seats. The single flourish is an illuminated wall installation of 600 blown-glass tear drops. With drinks as luxurious as its setting, Double Seven has all the trappings of an A-list haunt. Each bartender is trained in the Double Seven's 80 cocktails with a rotating menu of 14 nightly representing what is the freshest and most seasonal. And for that extra special touch, cocktails are ingeniously and fittingly paired with a selection of Debauve & Gallais chocolates. Yum! Harry's BarJust around the corner from L'Opera de Paris is the birthplace of that hangover miracle of a cocktail, the Bloody Mary. Established in 1911 and renowned for it's cocktails and real American hotdogs Harry's bar is an institution in Paris. Enjoy a drink in this informal yet proper bar with the knowledge that luminaries such as Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Marlene Dietrich might have sat in the same red (albeit reupholstered) leather booth. VolsteadVolstead, a 1920s-inspired lounge bar is an oasis of elegance and sophistication in an increasingly hectic and jaded West End. Something that comes as a direct result of a yearning to recreate the hedonistic party scene of that fabled and oft-imitated Jazz Age, the roaring 20s. BemelmansNowhere is the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie more palpable than in this dimly-lit bastion of old-fashioned romance. The bar itself is named after the creator of the Madeline series of books for children and has his illustrations on the wall. Whether you're falling in love or getting over it, settle into a leather banquette and let the piano player do the work. A must-see when in New York. MObarOn the 35th floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, this compact bar—set apart from the lobby's panoramic Broadway view—offers a more intimate atmosphere for drinks and light dishes along with some tamer glimpses of the hotel's slick urban surroundings. In addition to 20 wines by the glass, the bar serves a variety of cocktails, some of which are blended with house-infused liquors. LE BARRAMUNDIThe Barramundi restaurant, bar and club mixes African, Asian and South American influences and luxurious décor to take you on an ambitious journely. Taste the Mediterranean-based cuisine with exotic touches and a wide variety of teas and cocktails from the world over. That not enough? The music will take you away. It is truly out of this world. Veuve ClicquotLocated in The Sezz hotel, and certain to become one of Paris' most in demand night spots, this is the city's first Veuve Clicquot champagne bar. Here you can check out the Grande Dame bar and its namesake the Veuve Clicquot´s most prized champagne cuvée. Designer Christopher Pillet has included seating nooks so you can slip from the public eye, if you so desire. Garden of OnoThe Graden of Ono is a beautifully designed outdoor bar behind the hotel Gansevoort. It is a popular spot among the rich and beautful, Giselle Bundchen, Jessica Simpson, Claire Danes, Lindsay Lohan, John Legend. The hip architectural style is a study in Asian-industrial aesthetics - texturized concrete walls, a black bamboo cage floating in a shallow reed-lined pond, and a long sleek bar with amazingly light aluminum stools. Pink ElephantThe Pink Elephant nightclub caters to a luxury upscale market within an intimate high energy atmosphere. It retains its coziness thanks to crystal chandeliers, plants sprouting from behind the wavy wooden panels attached to the brick walls, and lounge seating . It has already become one of NY's top clubs. New York Magazine voted it the most Buzzed Club. Gorgio Armani, Bruce Willis, Drew Barrymore, Tommy Hilfiger, Mariah Carey are regulars. Les DeuxRemember Les Deux Café, the trendy Hollywood hangout frequented by Madonna, Tom Ford, and the like? Well, it's back after a three-year hiatus, and so is the A-list. You will go for the newly French-inspired menu, made up mostly of fancy cocktails and desserts, such as cupcakes, pastries, and a giant chocolate fountain. The Parisian decor hasn't changed much – peach-tinted mirrors, candelabras and dark colors abound. Fashion shows and classic films are projected onto a wall, and, of course, it's never a party unless there' s a DJ. Buddha LoungeNOT the Buddha Bar Paris's New York offshoot, which is on Little West 12th Street, this place is far more chilled, and "lounge" is the operative word. Under ceiling fans surrounded by a tropical forest of small trees and flickering candlelight, it's easy to groove to the sultry, varied hip-hop, world and house music along with a non-scenester crowd. BEDNot only does BED New York offer the unique opportunity to kick off your heels and lounge on specially designed beds while eating Roman-style, but it also boats a rooftop with a stunning 360-degree view of the midtown Manhattan skyline. Opened in 2005, BED quickly became the hot destination for many celebrities including George Clooney, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington. Claridge's BarSo riddled with history is this Queen Mother of London hotels, the walls of the art deco bar at Claridge's are most likely only being held up by the interesting encounters it has bared witness to over the past century. And they definitely have not stopped. Possessing a mighty impressive wine list and with bottles of champagne not to be sneered at, Claridge's is a place to spot the innovators in music, movies and fashion. Veranda BarWith floor-to-ceiling windows providing a mezmerizing ocean view, it's no wonder that the Veranda is a staple for many of Hollywood's industry types. AreaOpened in September 2006, Area is the latest nightclub in Hollywood to attract the movers and shakers in the world of movies and music. With cool interiors and an even cooler crowd, expect the door policy to be nothing but 'exclusive'. La CameraLocated in the center of the city and featuring ultra-sleek designed interiors, La Camera is one of the Stockholm's hotspots. Having a cocktail list as extensive as they do doesn't always make it easy for the customer; however, in keeping the bar open 'til 3am one is given a little bit of an extra chance. 15 Cent 15Havin been recently nipped tucked and given a facelift by French designer Olivier Gagnère, the banquettes at 15 cent 15 are some of the most sought after seating in the city. With large chandeliers, a mirrored roof and dark lighting - it's very very cosy. Bar MarmontNo place oozes old Hollywood glamour more than this favorite watering hole of many a cinema darling. Just after reopening once again, the bar receives a constant stream of A-listers staying or just visiting the famed Chateau Marmont, ensuring that the temperature in this locale is always on the hot side of the thermometer. Bar RougeSo called as it's proprietor is a Frenchman, this two sectioned Bar Rouge was designed by Imaad Rahmouni who's vision in was to instill that atmosphere of "see and be seen" amongst the bar's oh so social visitors. Great music, wonderful views of Pudong from the terrace and a bar with a very extensive wine list. Artesian BarWith dramatic bespoke interiors designed by Irish interior architect David Collins, this hotel bar specialises in rum cockails and stocks a staggering 50 different lables of the Caribbean liquor. Mojito's anyone?!? Ice BarThe bar that deals are made in. A favorite among Irelands heavyweights in the worlds of property, business and the arts, the Ice Bar is located in the Four Seasons hotel in the leafy suburb of Ballsbridge. Long BarPriding itself on being open to anyone at any time, Long Bar is, as you would imagine a bar with a long bar. 80 feet long in total. Airy, clean and bright, it's as trendy as the clientele that frequent it. Light BarWith imaginatively titled cocktails such as a Raspassion Martini and a Lychee and Elderflower Collins and walls covered with silly portraits by photographer Jean Baptiste Mondino, it's no wonder this is a fixture for hipster Londoners to kick back and relax. Gran Bar DanzonFor those oenologists who don't have enough time to visit vineyards outside Buenos Aires, here's a good place to start sampling the local produce. Stocking an impressive 200 plus Argentinian wines plus an imaginatively composed list of cocktails and featuring sounds from some of the the city's best live jazz bands, it doesn't take much guessing to see why everyone's having a good time. Having trained under chef Pierre Gagnaire chef Helena Puolakka brings her modern European cuisine to the, albeit divided, spacious 210 seated space. Designed by Conran & Partners a choice of formal and relaxed dining rooms means it can cater to every occasion. 60 ThompsonCreate enough hype around something and everybody wants a piece of it. That's exactly what happened here at the 60 Thompson. The private members rooftop terrace has for a while now been one of the most saught after locales for an evening drink. Perfectly located in downtown SoHo, grab a cocktail, lie back and enjoy the view from the top. Gramercy Park Roof TerracePositioned on the top of one of NYC's hottest hotels lies a veritable garden of eden. With features such as a ceiling installation made up of hundreds of bulbs, a retractable roof in summer and a large open fire in winter it truly is the perfect place to wind up or down, depending on the time of day. Access is reserved to guests at the hotel however so it might be an idea to book a room in advance. Experimental Cocktail ClubSometimes names of bars can be changed for good reason, and judging at how well this latest venture is doing, we think that they could probably do without the word 'experimental.' Already proving a massive success since it's launch in early June 2007, this cocktail lounge spearheaded by three young friends Romee, Pierre Charles and Olivier (all of whom are under 25) is a welcome addition to the Paris' trendy Montorgueil area. With interior designs by Cuoco Black and cocktails mixed with imaginative ingredients such as elderflower, sit back on the comfy couches, relax and enjoy the ecclectic tunes. LolaA new bar in the trendy Paquis neighborhood, Lola is the place to go for a drink. Delicious cocktails and candlelit atmosphere. Jelsomino CaféDid you know that St. Pete's jet-setters do more than just go to fancy restaurants and Decadence? Their hidden passion is singing. Moreover, in Jelsomino Café, which is frequented by famous Russian singers, you can get a chance to sing a duet with a national celebrity. If singing isn't your thing, Jelsomino's fashionable cocktail menu with Prada, Dior, Etro, and Kenzo blends will keep you from getting bored. DecadenceIn St. Pete's hip night lifestyle, it's not about the place, it's all about the person. Eduard Muradian's Decadence has become a legendary nightspot for the city's bohemian crowd.
