CITY GUIDE / NEW YORK / RESTAURANTS / THE LION

In the latest incarnation of this historic West Village site, which was once home to a gay cabaret club where Barbara Streisand was discovered, The Lion has opened as the city’s latest contender for the position of New York’s Most Fashionable Restaurant. Owner and head chef John DeLucie, who is also executive chef at Waverly Inn, envisioned a handsome room where diners can either feast on lobster pot pie while listening to a live string quartet or take a burger and beer at the clubby bar. Artworks adorning the walls include pieces by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Jean-Michel Basquiat, David LaChapelle – all of whom you imagine did or will dine at The Lion at some point in time.
