Founded by Rem D Koolhaas, nephew of the world famous architect, and Galahad Clark, of the shoemaking family, United Nude is a footwear brand known for its sculptural heels and unusually shaped flats. No surprise, therefore, that a shoe brand based on the principles of contemporary architecture requires a store designed around the same. At its just-opened New York flagship, shoes are showcased in the brand’s signature “light wall” (which can also be seen at United Nude outposts in Amsterdam and Shanghai), as well as within an innovative “dark shop” concept, which ensures that light is only focused on merchandise and darkness falls elsewhere.
