Alaïa has done it again with a collection of artful clothes and sculptural shoes concocted from fur, feathers and velvet. We select our favourite pieces from the Autumn Winter wardrobe of the fashion genius.

There is a reason why such a cult surrounds the fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa. Renowned not only for his design genius, but also for his focus on craft and quality, the Tunisian-born, Paris-based designer reliably captures the spirit of the moment in artful creations. His Autumn Winter 2010 collection is no different. Concocted from leather, fur, feathers and velvet, it features handsome riding jackets, ultra soft leather pencil skits and masterfully tailored coats alongside wool dresses in his signature nipped-at-the-waist silhouette.

As always, accessories are key with oversized leather belts-cum-corsets accentuating the waist even further. But, as in previous seasons, it is Alaïa’s shoes truly wow. They include a striking pair of black heels topped by a remarkable ankle cuff of exotic feathers that burst from a tribal-like leather tie, a white ankle boot with intricately cut suede detailing topped by balls of white fur, and another ankle boot in black and white leopard print fur. These are shoes-as-sculpture that encapsulate the talent of a man who has established an ultra loyal following, which includes Once again, we’re declaring Alaïa the collection of the season.
