A Single Man is the critically acclaimed directorial debut of the master of fashion, luxury and sex, Tom Ford. We showcase the trailer to his ultra-stylish entrance into Hollywood.
“I'm seduced by style, luxury, timelessness and glamour, qualities that are hard to find in our disposable society.”
“What I am trying to do at this stage in my life and at this stage in my business, is bring back the notion of true luxury which is really creating the very best thing you can possibly have.”
Tom Ford needs no introduction. The former creative director of Gucci, he is a master of fashion, both as a designer and as a businessman. But, if we are to believe him, his greatest passion is for movies. A Single Man is his directorial debut, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. “"It’s not about fashion,” Ford told British Vogue about his undeniably ultra-stylish entrance into Hollywood. “It’s a tiny movie, filmed on a tiny budget in 21 days – set in LA where the book is set,” he said modestly. Resources might have been tight but A Single Man is a hit with the critics: Colin Firth, who plays the protagonist George, has been nominated as Best Actor at the Oscars for his role, while Julianne Moore was nominated as Best Supporting actress at the Golden Globes for her portrayal of Charley. As cool as ever, Ford knows that a movie is different to a fashion collection: it will remain forever. He sums up his concoction of interiors, locations, music, actors and actresses, and script: “A film really needs to speak for itself.”
A Single Man is now playing in cinemas across most of Europe. Click above to play the trailer.
