WHAT: A modern luxury hotel with deep historical and royal roots.
WHERE: Andalusia, Spain.
WHY: This ancient Moorish farmhouse was captured by King Ferdinand III, and has been linked to royal owners until recently. In 2000 it was reinvented as a magical luxury hacienda, retaining its classic charm but incorporating a restaurant, La Alquería, with thoroughly modern cuisine. The hotel offers an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi, tennis and paddle courts, a billiards room, library, convention rooms and an Arab-Andalusian-style garden with palm and orange groves.
