What: What was once a humble fishing lodge has now been transformed into one of the most luxurious hotels in New Zealand.

Where: 300 meters upstream from the Huka Falls on the banks of the Waikato River on New Zealand’s North Island.

Why: Having played host to world figures from European royalty to the founder of Microsoft and a certain NEWS man, Huka Lodge is obviously something very special. In a magnificent though secluded location, it blends perfectly into its natural surroundings. Huka is a hotel of just 20 suites plus the Owners Cottage, and it is the latter that really stands out here. Made up of four beautifully appointed bedrooms and large living quarters, the cottage is the perfect place to achieve undisturbed repose in the most luxurious of accommodation. Guests have the option of dining in-house with their own personal chef, or taking the short, hidden trail to the restaurant in the main lodge if they so wish. The summer months give visitors the perfect chance to play golf, tennis, experience white water rafting, go trout fishing or simply to explore the spectacular New Zealand countryside, while winter snow provides the option of skiing or snowboarding.
