What: Part of the Amanresort hotel group, Le Mélézin is a 31-room resort and spa located in one of the world's premier ski destinations.

Where: Perched on the fashionable slopes of Courchevel 1880 in the Trois Vallées in the French Alps.

Why: One of the best five star hotels in the resort of Courchevel, Le Mélézin is as luxurious as they get. Throughout the hotel the effortless fusion of east meets west design and the first-rate interiors of marble, wood and high quality fabrics manages to create something of a discreet yet noble atmosphere. By offering a variety of rooms and suites in different sizes, the hotel targets its guests' exact needs while still retaining the understated elegance and comfort the group has become noted for. The larger suites, all of which feature large fireplaces and south facing balconies, have incredible views that overlook the snow-covered mountainside. One of the biggest highlights in the resort, however, is its large, opulent Turkish hammam, the perfect sanctuary in which to wind down after an active day on the slopes. The excellent restaurant serves haute French cuisine and the hotel's well appointed bar caters perfectly to the cognoscenti and its ber-chic residents. If a little down time is needed to recharge the batteries before another morning of skiing or boarding, an abundance of books, magazines and DVDs are available in the oak paneled hotel library in the basement.
