What: What once was a famed and favorite restaurant for the literary, theatrical and artistic elites in Budapest over a century ago has been reopened as a five-star hotel by the Boscolo hotel group.

Where: The hotel is situated in the historical town center of Budapest, not far from the Opera house and the Danube River.

Why: Frequently, when a hotel describes itself as a 'Palace' it is not hard to see that whoever bestowed the name upon it had, perhaps, slight illusions of grandeur. This is not the case, however, for the New York Palace. In fact, it would be hard for us not to use the adjectives palatial, opulent or regal when describing it. Inspired by the Italian renaissance, the design within the hotel can be credited to a team of expert Italian interior architects. Ornate gilding graces nearly all of the roofs, and the interiors are nothing but lavish. The rooms and suites are designed with an eye for absolute luxury and are filled with warm tones and fabrics of golds and browns, offset by avant-garde pieces such as a turquoise Venetian chandelier.
Guests can dine in the celebrated New York Café or Deep Water restaurant and then retire to the dimly lit Cigar bar for a late night cocktail—all the while enjoying the ageless atmosphere of inspiration that once filled the space in its heyday.
